This video is 4 minutes and 26 seconds and is divided into two parts:

  1. From beginning to 2:49 Global News’ Coleen Christie interviews political commentator Keith Baldrey. Both of them provide a news commentary on the day’s protests / counter-protests.
  2. From 2:49 to 4:26. Global News’ Coleen Christie continues her interview with political commentator Keith Baldrey, who provides a more in-depth political analysis on the “political” aspects of the SOGI protests..

Here is an edited transcript of part 2 of this video, starting at the 2:40 mark:

Christie: Keith, where do the various parties stand on this issue?

Baldrey: … it’s interesting to see the last 24 hours here.

[BC NDP]: First of all, the NDP: very clear… pro-SOGI, very much defending the LGBTQ community here against this, these protests.

[BC United Party]: Yesterday, BC United leader Kevin Falcon seemed to create a bit of confusion when he expressed sympathy for parents who marched in these protests, were taking place in these protests, and then perhaps opening the door to re-opening the SOGI policy which was actually adopted by the former BC Liberal government. But he made it clear in a subsequent phone call to me and to other reporters and then in a tweet on twitter just now, where he says that his party is firmly behind SOGI, has no intention of changing that policy, would like to see more direct communication with parents, but he also sent a tweet out today saying that he is deeply concerned about the LGBT community who feel, in his words, “targeted” and “threatened” and “attacked” by the crowd out here who are attacking SOGI. So, it seems to be a common position from the NDP, the BC United and the BC Greens.

[BC Conservative Party]: The one outlier in this, in terms of a different policy … John Rustad, a former BC Liberal cabinet minister - now the … leader of the BC Conservative Party – who was part of a cabinet that actually adopted SOGI back a number of years ago, today putting out a news release saying that his party would get rid of SOGI. And that, again, aligns itself with the People’s Party of Canada’s position, which is very much to … to roll back education programs such as this one. So, again, it’s something we’re going to keep on eye on all afternoon.

Christie: Ok, Keith. Thank you.
